France Tiers-Lieux has published a guide<\/a> on integrating third places into heritage sites.<\/h3>\n

WHO IS IT FOR<\/h4>\n

This guide, entitled “Creating Third Places in a Heritage Building,” is intended for local authorities and project leaders involved in heritage rehabilitation, as well as local stakeholders and funders.<\/p>\n

WHAT IS IT<\/h4>\n

Third places are informal spaces, outside of the home and the workplace, that foster social interaction, cooperation, and experimentation. They are characterized by local entrepreneurship, the hybridization of activities, experimentation, cooperation, and unconditional openness.<\/p>\n

THE AMBITION<\/h4>\n

Its ambition is to support the development of economic, tourism, and cultural activities in remarkable buildings, with a view to preserving heritage and revitalizing local areas.<\/p>\n

THE SITE<\/h4>\n

A heritage building can have several legal statuses, being protected as a historical monument (listed or registered) for its historical, artistic, architectural, technical, or scientific significance.<\/p>\n

TWO FOUNDATIONS<\/h4>\n

1) What assessments\u2014architectural and territorial\u2014are necessary before reactivating a building?
\n2) How can we develop a program to address the challenges of the local area?<\/p>\n
