ArtExpert collaborating to create the database on training in film and television

OTTAWA, February 21, 2007 - The Cultural Human Resources Council (CHRC) is pleased to announce the launch of its new Film and Television Training Data Base.
This unique resource allows film and television professionals (including directors, producers, actors, musicians, writers, composers and technical workers), and those preparing to enter the industry, to easily identify training opportunities. ArtExpert.ca in collaboration with M3K Solutions (Amadeus), were responsible for building and populating the TDB.

For several years, the film and television industry has called for this national training data base. They recognize its key role in "harmonizing training", as both a practical tool to assist access to training, and a policy tool to identify training gaps and advance solutions.

The TDB was funded by Human Resources and Social Development Canada, and the Department of Canadian Heritage. A Steering Committee of professionals representing training providers including Institut nationale de l'image et du son (INIS), the Canadian Film and Television Production Association (CFTPA), the Canada Film Centre (CFC), the National Screen Institute (NSI), the Canadian Screen Training Centre (CSTC), and Women in Film and Television (WIFT), and funders including the Department of Canadian Heritage and Telefilm, oversaw the development of the TDB.

Users may search by training provider, area of training (i.e. writing and research, directing, producing, technical crew, post-production, new media and acting), and type of training (full-time, professional development, workshops, on-the-job, mentoring, seminars/master classes, e-learning). Information contained in the TDB is maintained by the training providers themselves, therefore will be up to date and accurate.

The current listing of training providers includes professional associations, industry organizations and private institutions. A second phase is planned which will include the addition of universities and colleges that offer courses, degrees and diplomas in film and television related studies.
